Avenging the Ancestors Coalition (ATAC): African American Employment Opportunities: President's House/Slavery Commemoration Project

  • President George Washington enslaved our ancestors in Philadelphia at America's first "White House," which was at the current site of the new Liberty Bell Center at 6th & Market.
  • In 2002, ATAC began and led the fight to commemorate those ancestors in the President's House/Slavery Commemoration Project. And in 2005, ATAC and others won the fight for this historic project.
  • ATAC's next fight, which began in 2005, was and is to make sure that today's free Black sons and daughters of yesterday's enslaved Black fathers and mothers play a substantial and prominent role in building that project, whose construction will resume during the end of May, 2009.
  • Although African Americans hold 70 percent of the project's historian, archaeological, scriptwriting, video, audio, marketing, and administrative positions- including that of lead architect and designer- ATAC nonetheless demands a substantial and prominent Black role in the actual building of the project.
  • It must be noted that in 2003 a Black mayor "conceived" this project. In 2005, a Black Congressman "carried" it. In 2008, another Black mayor began "laboring" with it. And on July 4, 2010, a Black president will "deliver" it. ATAC will fight to make sure that no one- whether Black or white- aborts it. In other words, Black folks have come too far to turn back now!
  • Therefore, if you are African American and own or work at a predominantly African American construction-related and/or contracting-related company that wants to participate in this project or if you are an African American individual with experience who wants to do construction-related or contracting-related work on this project, please complete the attached AFRICAN AMERICAN EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY SIGN-UP SHEET.
