The Liberty Bell...Reveals Slavery Hell!
- The new Liberty Bell Center opened exactly three years ago on October 9, 2003 when it moved to its current site.
- That current site was the location of the President’s House, which in 1790 was America’s first “White House” where George Washington enslaved our ancestors, some of whom were held in the Slave Quarters there.
- Those Slave Quarters were a mere five feet from the main entrance to the new Liberty Bell Center.
- In the 1830s, the Liberty Bell- originally called the State House Bell- was adopted as a symbol of freedom by abolitionists who renamed it the “Liberty Bell.”
- After Independence National Historical Park (INHP) announced that it would commemorate the President’s House site (which will open in October 2007), Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) and others recently pressured INHP to include the essential story of slavery at that site with a “Slavery Commemoration Project.”
- Therefore, on the third anniversary of the opening of the Liberty Bell Center, ATAC will hold an “informational demonstration” entitled the:
