< Return to Major Releases and Pictures Public Commendation To Mayor John F. StreetWHAT: Public Commendation To Mayor John F. Street WHEN: 1/2/08 at 6:00 p.m. WHERE: 202 City Hall WHY: Mayor Street was the first elected official to formally address and to actually finance the President's House/Slavery Commemoration project. This project pertains to America's first "White House," which was in Philadelphia at the current site of the new Liberty Bell Center and- most important- was where President George Washington enslaved Black men, women, and children. Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) was formed five years ago to petition the federal government to commemorate those enslaved African descendants. As a result of essential assistance from Mayor Street, ATAC and others were successful in helping to bring about the President's House/Slavery Commemoration project. Accordingly, ATAC will publicly commend the Mayor. INFO: Call 215-552-8751 or log onto avengingtheancestors.com |
