  • George Washington enslaved our African ancestors in brutal bondage at America's first "White House," which was right here in Philly at the current site of the Liberty Bell at 6th & Market.
  • Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) and others have been demanding that the federal government agree to create a memorial project in honor of those enslaved ancestors. As a result of four years of relentless demands, ATAC and others have finally forced the federal government to agree.
  • Currently, the federal government and the city government are considering which architects, designers, construction firms, and historians will be selected to complete the memorial project.
  • ATAC now demands that Black architects, Black designers, Black construction firms, Black historians, and other Black workers be selected to play a "substantial, significant, and prominent" role in the creation of that memorial project.
  • Because our enslaved ancestors were forced into unpaid labor in the past, their descendants must be selected for paid labor in the present.
