George Washington enslaved our African ancestors in brutal bondage at America's first "White House," which was right here in Philly at the current site of the Liberty Bell at 6th & Market.
Avenging The Ancestors Coalition (ATAC) and others have been demanding that the federal government agree to create a memorial project in honor of those enslaved ancestors. As a result of four years of relentless demands, ATAC and others have finally forced the federal government to agree.
Currently, the federal government and the city government are considering which architects, designers, construction firms, and historians will be selected to complete the memorial project.
ATAC now demands that Black architects, Black designers, Black construction firms, Black historians, and other Black workers be selected to play a "substantial, significant, and prominent" role in the creation of that memorial project.
Because our enslaved ancestors were forced into unpaid labor in the past, their descendants must be selected for paid labor in the present.
